Rides, races, and one more meeting

Wednesday's meeting had great turnout, about 15 new faces and most of them freshmen! Seems like a lot of people are stoked on riding with the team, and we got into plenty of details at the meeting. In case you're still interested, but couldn't make the first one, come by the same place (Rec Center's Skybox room) at 7 pm on Tuesday the 31st and we'll get you in the loop.

This upcoming weekend, the first in September, will see racing at Ripon college out of Ripon, WI. They've hosted a race at Nordic Mountain for a few years now, and last year it was visited by the Pro XCT tour. We'll be racing that course with a full fleet of riders, and looking forward to their downhill as well. Don't forget the cheese either.

Rockbridge rides will be starting soon, so will night crits. Keep your eyes peeled on the message boards and our Facebook page for more info.

Finally, jerseys will be ordered this week, so come on Tuesday or post up on the board if you want an order. We need 50% down now, and full payment when you pick your order up.

And remember, wheelies don't pop themselves.

First Meeting of the Year: Wednesday @ 9PM in the Rec Center Skybox

Mizzou Riders,

Fall semester means one thing to many MU students, it’s time to ride with the Mizzou Cycling team. We exist to connect riders at Mizzou, ride recreationally, race at the collegiate level, and ultimately grow the collegiate cycling community in Columbia.

Offering competitive and non-competitive cycling in all disciplines, including cross country, road, cyclocross, and gravity events, our members enjoy a variety of riding, racing and training in town and across the Midwest.

I invite anyone interested in recreationally or competitively riding mountain, road or cyclocross to stop by our first meeting of the year Wednesday at 9 PM in the Rec Center’s Skybox room, and see what it’s like to ride with Mizzou Cycling. You’ll find a relaxed group of riders from the serious to beginner level, in an active club with plenty of opportunities for riding, racing and traveling, all based on a volunteer, no traditional coach involved level. Even if you just want a sweet spring break trip, I definitely recommend you stop by.

You’ll also find an easy way to meet likeminded students, and to help that after the meeting we’ll be taking a short ride over to Shakespeare’s pizza on Ninth Street for pizza and bike chat.

See you Wednesday,

Brent Davidson

Regional Championship Returns to Mizzou

MWCCC mountain bike regional championship racing comes back to Mizzou for a second year in a row, promising four dirt-slinging events here in Columbia. After a long and hot summer, the collegiate series is fast approaching and we are planning, scheming, and digging our way towards the championship on October 2nd and 3rd. New and re-worked courses are in construction, the team's been tearing up local trails, and traveling all over the country riding.

Keep an eye here and our Facebook page as the season, and course construction continues. For now, check out our 2010 race flier - page one and page two.

Now is the time to get involved in riding, come to our first meeting!

We invite any and all interested riders to our first and most important spring semester meeting, Wednesday the 27th at 9 pm in the Rec Center's Club Sports Skybox. We'll be discussing the spring road racing season, spring break trip, doing a jersey order, and more.

Besides the biking itself, the team is a great way to meet new and like-minded people and to tap into Columbia’s cycling community. The meetings are a great way to get your feet wet with the team, so come by and meet some of our members and see what the Mizzou Cycling Team is all about. We welcome any rider, new or experienced, racer or recreational.

Mizzou Cycling's First Mountain Regionals A Success

Mizzou Cycling hosted the Midwest Collegiate Cycling Conference's regional mountain event Saturday and Sunday for the first time in the club's mountain history. Collegiate teams from all over the Midwest competed in Columbia for cross country, downhill, short track, and dual slalom titles.

The final races of the season were held at Cosmopolitain Park for XC, and the remainder at Mizzou Cycling's on-campus shred zone. With Rock Bridge park rained out, Cosmo delivered fast paced racing on a slightly shorter, six mile lap. The completely redesigned DS and brand new DH courses on-campus were well received by racers, and enhanced the quality of racing. STXC had a slightly longer loop than previous courses, but still included the infamous "Pain and Despair" climb and rocky singletrack descent.

To capture racing on the new gravity courses from a rider's perspective, the helmet cam saw battle atop Brent Davidson's lid. Below is some of the footage.

Thanks to everyone who made 2009 Regionals a success, but in particular to the teams who made the long drive out, all the Mizzou Cycling members who lent a hand, USAC official Mike Gillogly for the whole season,  Family Medicine Resident and Mizzou alum Aaron Gray for medical staffing and giving stitches in the parking lot, Rec Sports for so many things, and many others!

Collegiate mountain nationals are in two weeks, stay tuned and see if Mizzou Cycling competes!
